Workforce Solutions Greater Dallas Improves Employment Opportunity through Retail Pay$

As one of the largest nonprofit organizations in Dallas — whose mission centers on "providing competitive solutions for employers through quality people and for people through quality jobs" — Workforce Solutions Greater Dallas (WFSDallas) realized early on that they were uniquely positioned to make a major impact on job-seekers and employers in their region.

As an innovator and leader in the workforce development space, WFSDallas formed the Retail Pay$ program – with funding provided by Walmart.org – to help entry-level workers gain essential skills that lead to mid-level careers. WFSDallas has partnered with MNK Infotech and Colaberry to provide Microsoft Office Specialist Excel Certifications and Professional Communication training AT NO COST to learners.

To date, WFSDallas has helped over 1,400 learners gain the skills necessary to confidently pursue new jobs, advance their careers, and improve their lives through Retail Pay$.

Program Goals

  • Recieve a Microsoft Office Specialist - Excel certification.
  • Retain or obtain employment
  • Wage increase

Program Eligibility

  • Currently work or have worked in the past 12 months in the Retail Industry.
  • Currently work or have worked in the past 12 months in a Customer facing occupation (virtual, phone or in-person).
  • Live and/or work in the following counties in Texas: Dallas, Tarrant, Collin, Denton, Wise, Ellis, Erath, Hood, Somervell, Hunt, Johnson, Kaufman, Rockwall, Navarro, Parker, and Palo Pinto.

Requirements

  • Commitment towards attending the training and taking the certification
  • Active participation in group discussions
  • Technology: Access to Internet and laptop/desktop
  • Minimum education: High School graduate / High School Equivalent
  • Age: 18 years old or older
  • Previous/current work experience: Retail, sales, account management, IT or any fast-paced customer facing role
  • Criminal background: must pass a criminal background check

Essential Skills for Business

  • Effective Communication Strategies
    • Verbal: Interview skills development (in person, virtual and video recording), preparing for behavioral interview questions
    • Written: resume building, professional emails, cover letter, and thank you/ follow up emails.
  • Relationships & Business Etiquette
  • Negotiation Skills and Time Management

Gamified and Video Assessments will be assigned to reinforce learning

Start Date: Week Of August 16

Weekdays: Tuesday to Thursday 5pm - 7pm CST

Weekend: Saturday 8am - 12pm CST

Duration: 6 weeks; including 1 week/weekend for Exam and Labor Day
